With our youngest son Daniel and his girlfriend away having a great time with his brother Rob where he works at Sayers Croft (an outdoor activities/education centre) in Surrey, Mag and I had a relaxing Sunday morning. A bit of a lay in reading followed by my exercises in the garden. It seems to have warmed up again with lovely sunshine so we decided to get the bikes out. We took a chocolate bar and a drink then headed off through the Cavendish Park estate to the lane which takes you to Cordys Lane at Trimley. We carried on through Trimley Marshes where there was a Suffolk Wildlife Trust open day and we had to watch out for the mini bus taking people back and forth to the centre and hides. On reaching the River Orwell right at the end of the docks we biked onto the bumpy river path and headed towards Levington. There were a lot of people about but they thinned out as we approached the winter flood hide where we spotted an Avocet feeding, the first we had seen in ages:) Then a little way further on our path was blocked by a family of Grey lag geese, two adults with six young!!! We had them worried for a moment but the grownups found a way down to the muddy river and the young ones tumbled down behind them leaving muddy tracks all the way to the Orwell for a swim:)
It was then round the dead tree lagoon, empty as it was low tide, to our favourite seat on the cliffs looking straight up the river, sadly some oafs had made a fire there and left a ripped up dictionary all over the place, such a beautiful place ruined up idiots:( We had our snack watching the many yachts and racing dinghies on the river before continuing to Loompit lake. We turned right and went through our usual tree lined avenues back to Trimley. We found another track crossing the level crossing leading to the high street which we crossed to enter the lane by the church. Under the A14 the the track by the lovely yellow rape field leading to Gulpher Road. Then headed through the woods at the Grove. Mag then headed home while I said I was going to look at the sea. I found a long footpath behind houses coming out by the Golf club. There was nobody windsurfing or kiting so I continued to The Fludgers turning onto the prom as it had turned cloudy and chilly and there were few people about. I biked slowly along looking for coal and struck lucky near the town hall where I spotted several large lumps and managed to collect 5 kg in quick time before heading home for a cuppa and some delicious homemade rhubarb cake – so a top weekend :)
